What made you decide to pursue your degree in WDOC?
I have always had an insatiable desire to make the world a better place. It only took my twenty-five years of trial and error to find the best path for me to do that. WDOC allows me to utilize an eclectic skill set and creative mind in a fashion that can help shape the world in a way that I find meaningful. From a more pragmatic standpoint the WDOC program makes me eligible for many desirable employment opportunities with a good salary and benefits.
What has been the biggest thing you have learned in your classes?
Even having completed only one semester, it is difficult to pinpoint one particular piece of knowledge that will have a greater impact on my future than any other. In the course of one summer, I have learned the foundations of web design, core design concepts, Adobe InDesign functionality, strategic marketing concepts and the ethical foundations of marketing. All of this information has limitless applications and has shifted the way I view and interact with the world.
What have you learned in your classes that you have already applied to your job?
I have been able to utilize my education to improve customer communication and create professional and appealing media. Further, I am in the process of obtaining internships, starting a small business, and a foundation solely based on these skillsets.
What are your career aspirations?
Short-term I wish to obtain employment with a socially responsible company that works to make the world a better place. Here I would hope to gain crucial experience that will strengthen the skills learned throughout my MAMC. Eventually, I hope to become a leading communications expert that will help to redefine the way that corporations work and their relationships with consumers. From here, should I be really successful, I would like to help dispel societal apathy and drive policy change.
What accomplishment are you the proudest of achieving?
Other than learning and growing so much in such a short time, I am astounded that I was able to excel so well during my first semester. Without knowing for certain how much work would be required of me, I took 10 credit hours during the summer and still managed a 4.0 GPA. Sometimes it felt really overwhelming but now I know that I really am capable.
