What made you decide to pursue your degree in WDOC?
University of Florida’s program enticed me because its course offerings were tailored to my specific interests and were geared towards students such as myself who have little or no coding experience. After attending a webinar led by the director of the program, I got a thorough idea of the programs curriculum, outcomes and most importantly job placement rate. Another deciding factor that I particularly liked was that the program aims at building a portfolio as you matriculate through the program.
What has been the biggest thing you have learned in your classes?
The most difficult thing for me before attending the program was coding. With the help of Mrs. Pelasky, I finished the Web Principles course with an in-depth understanding of how webpages are built using HTML5 and CSS3- something I would never have been able to do without her! if it hadn’t been for this program, I would have never thought that I could have designed and coded the final project (a yoga studio website), let alone understood HTML in the first place!
What have you learned in your classes that you have already applied to your job?
I have been able to put the graphic design and marketing skills immediately to use in my current job. I have designed informational flyers for work in InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop and have even designed and printed large-scale artwork a 15’ bulletin board in Illustrator!
What are your career aspirations?
After graduation, I would like to work as a front end website and mobile developer for a higher education institution.
What accomplishment are you the proudest of achieving?
Up to this point, I am most proud of the finals for both the Digital Imagery and Web Design Principles courses. They were a ton of work and put the everything I learned thus far to the test, but it was worth it because the final products are great portfolio boosters!
