What made you decide to pursue your degree in WDOC?
I decided to enroll in the Web Design and Online Communication program because I needed a refresher course in the Adobe Suite programs, and I also wanted to learn web design. Even though I already have a degree in Graphic Design, I think having web skills will make me more employable. I did a lot of research on different programs and felt that this one was the best fit for me.
What has been the biggest thing you have learned in your classes?
I think the biggest thing I have learned in my classes, besides the obvious of learning how to design and code an entire website from scratch (which is amazing!) is to have confidence in my own abilities again.
What have you learned in your classes that you have already applied to your job?
I learned how to give and receive constructive feedback, from the live presentations of our projects that we had to give to the rest of the class. I think that is an invaluable real-world skill, since I will have to present my design concepts to actual clients some day.
What are your career aspirations?
Having taken a long hiatus from Graphic Design, I’m now ready to jump back into the workforce, armed with new skills and renewed enthusiasm for both graphic and web design. I think I will pursue free-lance or even volunteer work to build up my portfolio, then I will probably pursue fulltime employment.
What accomplishment are you the proudest of achieving?
I think I am most proud of two things: First, conquering my previous dislike of Photoshop and learning to love it (and becoming good at it!) and second, coding an entire website from scratch. Also, re-discovering my creativity and learning how to be a good designer again, thanks to wonderful teachers and great classes!
