What made you decide to pursue your degree in WDOC?
I did a lot of research and this program kept appearing on those lists. UF was among the very few Florida schools that offered what I wanted, especially the classroom interaction. UF was a easy chose for me.
What has been the biggest thing you have learned in your classes?
One of the biggest thing I’ve learned in this course is how to properly use the quick selection tool. This is something I’ve used a lot in my professional career. Also, the other biggest thing I’ve learned in all of my courses is to push my self even if I think I might fail.
What have you learned in your classes that you have already applied to your job?
I’m currently working in communications and marketing, so my day-to-day tasks are creating flyers and promotional materials, along with running social media, managing a website, and writing news releases for one of the largest departments in the 5th largest city in Florida. It’s a big task and I’ve incorporated a lot of what I have learned in my classes into my work. I can gladly say this program has taught me more than I had imagined when applying.
What are your career aspirations?
I’d like to pursue more freelance opportunities, especially for nonprofit organizations. Nothing is more aspiring then being my own boss and helping others.
What accomplishment are you the proudest of achieving?
My biggest accomplishment that I’m proud of is taking three courses during the summer semester while working full-time, earning a grade I’m very proud of in each of these courses, and creating work that I can be proud of. The professors in this program are very thorough and organized, which is great for someone that is a part-time student, working full-time.
