What made you decide to pursue your degree in WDOC?
I craved a Masters degree that kept me on my toes! My Bachelor’s degree was in Journalism and Mass Communication with a track in Public Relations from FIU. It turns out that I wasn’t too passionate about it in the end. But this program keeps my creative juices flowing and I’m constantly learning and creating something new and useful that I can apply in the real world.
What has been the biggest thing you have learned in your classes?
The biggest thing I have learned in my classes is that I constantly have to practice the skills I learn. Web design and coding in itself is like a new language. If I last too long without practicing it, I’ll soon forget it. The classes challenge me to hone in new skills while enhancing the ones I already have.
What have you learned in your classes that you have already applied to your job?
I have learned several things that I have already applied to my current job. The biggest has got to be thinking outside the box. I’ve always played it really safe, but in this program, you can’t be afraid to try something new and throw your ideas out there. I’ve learned to be more comfortable with creating strategies and suggesting new logo and website ideas to the companies I work for, even when it’s not my place to do so. I learned that great employers actually want to hear what you have to say and want you to bring your creativity to the table.
What are your career aspirations?
My career aspirations are to continue writing and working in social media. I hope to someday be an Editor-in-Chief. I have a keen eye for small details and one of my greatest passions is sharing my experiences, whether life or my travels, through my writing.
What accomplishment are you the proudest of achieving?
So far my greatest and most recent accomplishment has been maintaining straight As since I started this program. I hope that my next accomplishment is graduating Summa Cum Laude or landing a dream job in the Editorial field!
