Corporate messaging, branding, news, information and opinion are more visible and more influential than ever before. The ability to tell stories using video is crucial in today’s digital media world. Students will refine shooting, editing and storytelling skills to produce a video story suitable for digital publication. Building on existing skills in video gathering and editing, the course requires students to storyboard, develop, and critically evaluate elements suitable for visual stories that forge an emotional connection without sacrificing accuracy. Students will analyze storytelling traditions and their evolution from traditional to modern-day structures. Students will examine devices including character, arc, master plots and framing, and apply such elements to communication contexts relevant to our age of rapid communication and ubiquitous information.
