The project required us to select a non-profit organization and create a 10-page informational packet that demonstrated our understanding of design principles, typography and visual elements.
I selected Art Start, a NYC based nonprofit that provides creative workshops and other services for the city’s underserved youth. I was inspired by the organization’s website, which looked both minimal and modern. It featured beautiful black and white photography and bright red accents, which I incorporated in my project design.
The project was designed to appeal to potential volunteers and supporters by showcasing Art Start’s mission and the impressive services it provides to underserved youth.
In designing the project in InDesign, I applied master pages; paragraph, character and object styles; and typographic principles.
Favorite Aspect of Project
I enjoyed the process of reading about the organization and trying to condense the information down to its most essential elements.
What did you learn while completing this Project?
I learned that sometimes less is more when it comes to layout. I designed the brochure in black and white with pops of red, and was still able to convey the organization’s mission in a dynamic way.
